Forming A Fitness Habit Against All Odds
It’s no secret that many people in the U.S. and probably around the world are quite out of shape. This is the natural result of a sedentary lifestyle and a great deal of office work and computer work. Add to this the fact that the demands of daily living and the dynamics of the modern family are often not conducive to fitness, and you’ve got a recipe for physical disaster. As many excuses as there are for not staying in shape, there are just as many solutions. Read on to learn how you can stay in shape spite of it all!
What can you do when your family and friends make fun of your efforts at fitness instead of helping you? This is very difficult because your friends and family should be supportive of your efforts at self improvement. One thing you can do is to turn the tables on them! Instead of waiting for them to encourage you, encourage them instead! When you’re thinking about taking up a fitness program, share article, videos and so on to suggest the idea to your friends and family members. Don’t be too specific at first. This is an old fashioned manipulation trick, but it often works. Maneuver the people in your life into a position of making a suggestion to you instead of proposing an idea to them and trying to get them on board.
Another problem that many people have with getting fit is a simple lack of money. In society today, we’re often convinced you have to spend money to do anything. Getting fit is no exception. If you can’t afford to join a gym, buy the latest gadget, or invest in the newest and most fantastic diet pill and program, don’t despair! Losing weight and getting fit doesn’t really cost anything. One of the most proven diet programs in the world is simply pushing yourself away from a table! This is very effective and it costs nothing. One of the most effective forms of exercise is walking. This is something we can all do anytime, anywhere for free. You just need a pair of comfortable walking shoes.
While we’re talking about walking shoes, let’s talk about the excuse of not exercising because you don’t have equipment. Again, exercise is as natural as breathing and walking. You don’t need equipment. You can find lots of free videos online that will help you stretch, use your own body weight, and enjoy every manner of exercise for which you need no equipment. Exercise in your own room with the door shut, and you can exercise in your birthday suit. No one will care!
Many people avoid exercise because they think that they are simply not athletic. This doesn’t matter! You don’t have to be athletic to exercise, in the same way that you don’t need to know everything to learn something. If you are not athletic, that’s a very good reason to exercise! Simply choose forms of exercise that don’t require a lot of strenuous effort, grace or athleticism. You can enjoy yoga, light weight training, isometrics, walking and much more. The goal of exercising doesn’t have to be becoming weight lifter or a fashion model. Your goal could just be to improve your fitness level a bit and safeguard your health.
Another exercising excuse that many use is the idea that one simply cannot exercise in bad weather. Well, obviously this is just ridiculous. You don’t have to exercise outside. Set yourself up a little corner in your home for stretching, light dumbbell workouts and exercises that don’t take up a lot of space such as running in place. This will give you a nice alternative for days when the weather is too hot, too cold, rainy, etc. Remember that you can take a walk inside your building at work. You can stop off at a mall on the way home for a brisk walk There are lots of free and easy ways to get indoor exercise if you put your mind to it.
It’s easy to see that the popular exercise excuses are just that – excuses. Follow the tips presented here to face up to the excuses and get your exercise.
